Google’s recent Gmail changes could mean that you’re not reading all of your mail. That’s right, without asking our opinion, Gmail made changes to everyone’s email boxes. Your incoming emails are being divided my category: primary, social, promotions, updates, and forums. By default, the primary, social, and promotions categories are probably already in effect for your email.
You might be missing Facebook updates, Groupon emails, and newsletters to which you’ve subscribed. These emails could be hiding under their respective category tab.

If you, like many, are not a fan of the new, forcibly imposed email tabs, you can turn them off. On your Gmail screen click on the cog icon in the upper right hand corner. Select “Configure inbox.” Simply uncheck or check the tabs you want enabled, then hit save.
