For many professionals, social media can be a confusing issue. How often should you post? Will more accounts on multiple platforms help? Finally, the one question we’ve received quite a bit recently: When should you use hashtags? The best ways to use them will differ depending on what platform you use.
Less is More on Facebook
Facebook doesn’t make huge use of hashtags, but studies show that using between one and six of them per post can increase engagement. With any post on social media, your goal is to engage people. When current patients comment or like your content, all the people on their friends list see this, providing you with a better chance of attracting new leads.
Go Crazy on Instagram
No social media platform uses hashtags quite like Instagram. They’re an essential part of the platform! You can make them as long as you like and add as many as you like. In fact, you can have up to 30 different ones (but that might be a little overkill). When you share a post or a link to your blog/site, hashtag any relevant keywords, such as dentistry, dental care, perfect smiles, and so on and so forth.
Definitely a Plus on Twitter
Hashtags are definitely a major factor on Twitter posts. However, you are limited by characters. As long as your status and your hashtags are under 140 characters, you’re good to go. You can also look on the main page at what hashtags are trending. If they’re relevant to your post (and only if they’re relevant!) you can use them to increase your exposure.
