We’ve written before about common scam tactics targeted towards dentists. Recently, a client emailed us after receiving a physical bill for their domain listing. Fortunately, instead of simply paying it they contacted us. We want to make our other clients and anyone else reading this blog is aware of this new scam!
A Common Tactic
Recently, one of our clients received what appeared to be a bill. The entire letter was designed to look like they owed $228 for a domain listing. Buried in the print at the bottom of the page was the text pointing out it was not a bill, but an optimal service and they were under no obligation to pay. Of course, this text was not for the dentist’s benefit, or else the letter wouldn’t be designed to mimic a bill.
This is how the scam works. They know a dentist and his/her staff are very busy and are unlikely to scan the fine print, where they put a quick sentence to protect themselves from lawsuits and legal trouble. But as for the rest? Clearly designed to trick a practice into paying an unnecessary bill.
Remember, if you’re a client of ours then we manage all of your domain for you. We take care and renewals and other issues related to your website’s maintenance. If you receive a bill that seems fishy, please let us know!
We can Help!
