Yesterday, we looked at indicators of trustworthy search engine optimization (SEO) companies. However, there are sadly a number of companies misrepresenting themselves and their abilities, charging people for results they can’t deliver. Fortunately, there are a few things you can watch out for when interviewing potential SEO companies that can help you avoid choosing an unreliable one.
Warning Signs of Untrustworthy SEO Companies
- Bold Promises: We’ll be the first to admit SEO can be complicated, and results may take as long as six months or a year to become apparent. We know it works, but we also know not to make bold promises about doubling your business or guaranteeing you the number one spot on a search engine results page. Be wary of companies that make those promises, they may use black hat tactics to offer quick results, but these tactics can hurt your website or even lead to penalties.
- Offering “Secret” Solutions: The kind of businesses that make bold promises also usually brag about their “secret sauce.” They can’t tell you what it is or what’s in it, but they guarantee it works. There is no secret sauce. Google wants to direct users to relevant, quality content. Therefore, a good company should focus on creating relevant, quality content to improve rankings and help you attract new patients. If you read our blogs, you’ll see exactly what goes into our process. Any reliable company should be just as transparent.
- Focus on Rankings and Traffic Only: Of course you want higher rankings and better traffic, but if you don’t have quality content on your site, traffic and rankings may not lead to people walking into your front door. Remember, improving traffic gets them to your website, but quality content gets them to your door. Providing a laser focus only on the first step will not be effective!
