We’ve heard this question many different times, many different ways: How does a blog help me? If you own a dental practice and are in the process of figuring out your online marketing strategy, you may be skeptical of the fact that a blog can help. How does blogging impact your search engine optimization (SEO)? How can it help your practice grow? You may be surprised to find out the many benefits to blogging.
Blogging and SEO
How does posting a blog help with SEO? When you post a blog, Google’s bots will crawl and index the pages. A steady stream of original and well-written content can help improve your site’s ranking. The more you blog (preferably about four times a week) the greater the chances of seeing improvement.
SEO aside, blogging is a great way to address common questions or issues important to your patients. You can also discuss changes to the office, such as new staff members, or specials that you are running. Also, by sharing your blog posts on social media, there is a better chance that your content will be seen, and attract people to your website. Additionally, your posts can help solidify your reputation as an expert in your field. After all, if you have a website, a person is more likely to visit that before calling you or stopping by your practice.
What Should a Blog Post Look Like?
There’s no exact science to writing a blog, but we do have a few suggestions:
- You can repeat topics, but make sure your copy is always original.
- Don’t re-post the same material.
- Keep the word count above 300 words, but below 1200.
- Alternate formats, for example, you can switch between quizzes, Q&A, and lists.
- Include pictures and/or videos.
- Avoid large blocks of text.
