In 1994, what are referred to today as blogs were referred to as web diaries. By 2002, major news outlets were aware of the impact of blogging. In 2003, the debut of Typepad and WordPress, as well as Google’s purchase of Pyra Labs, put bloggers at the forefront. The trend continued. Between 2005 and 2008, YouTube, Twitter, and The Huffington Post all hit the stage, placing more importance on bloggers and blogging in the world of news, entertainment, and marketing. Today, blogging can help improve your website’s ranking and is considered an essential part of business websites. Each post you write is read by Google’s bots, which then index the material. A steady stream of new material can often boost rankings (provided the material is original and well-written).

How do You Blog?

So, now that we see how, over a brief period of time, blogging became an essential part of the online landscape, how do you blog? As a business, we suggest creating content aimed at your clients. How do you write successful posts? Here are a few tips:

  • Keep the word count between 350-500 words, and definitely no more than 1200 words
  • Change up formats
  • Break up text with pictures and videos
  • Use long-tail keyword placement
  • Include links to your website and to previous (and related) blog posts
