Website design has come a long way, but sometimes we’re slow to keep up! Do you worry about having an outdated design? At MDPM Consulting, we recommend redesigning your website about once every three to four years. Doing so helps ensure you stay on top of the latest trends. Otherwise, your outdated design could turn people away, and even hurt SEO.
When Should You Redesign?
There are a number of warning signs indicating that you need a new design. For instance, if your website includes any of the following, it’s time for a redesign:
- Flash intro. (This is annoying to users and can actually hurt SEO.)
- Auto playing music. (This is beyond annoying. It’s not 1996, so there’s no excuse.)
- Busy web design. (Users prefer a clean, simple, flat design.)
But the biggest reason of all: mobile-friendliness. If your website isn’t compatible on a phone or tablet, you’re going to end up with high bounce rates as people leave your site almost immediately. In addition, an outdated and non-responsive design can also hurt SEO, as Google now factors in mobile-friendliness when ranking websites. If your website isn’t responsive and mobile-friendly, then you desperately need it updated.
Logo and Branding
Have you recently updated your logo? A logo update is actually a perfect time to have your site redesigned. That way you won’t have to try to fit your snazzy new logo into your old design. A redesign can also be a great chance to update your brand, especially if you’re taking over an established practice.
