As you browse through different websites, you might instinctively realize the value of fast loading times. If you find yourself waiting too long for a website or page to load, you might lose interest and try another search result. Besides short attention spans, though, the speed of your own website is important for a few other reasons, including your position on search engine results pages and the value of your site’s user experience, to name just a couple.

Among the many factors that affect SEO, site speed was one of the earliest signals Google incorporated into its search ranking algorithms. Since then, other factors like original content and the relevance of the links on each page have also been added to the algorithms. Yet, speed is still one of the more important factors in creating a good user experience throughout your website.

Over a decade and a half after Google began incorporating changes to its search algorithms, site speed remains a strong factor in how good of an experience users have when visiting your site. The quicker the pages load, the more willing users will be to continue navigating through them.

Site Speed and SEO (Search Engine Optimization)

Loading times affect UX, which in turn affects your site’s search ranking. However, the speed of your site also has a more direct relationship with your SEO efforts. If a page takes too long to load, then users will be more likely to exit the site before the page finishes loading. To count as a legitimate site visit, and to increase the chances of converting visitors into patients, users should remain on a page at least for a short period of time. If users never get the chance to peruse your site because it takes too long to load, then you have a significantly lower chance of seeing any conversions resulting from visits to your website.
