How to Make Great Blog Posts
- Focus on Content: Will people want to read your post? You need to write original and engaging content. Not only does Google reward original content, but you also make it more likely that people will return to your blog.
- Make It Look Reader Friendly: First impressions are always vital, even when blogging. Remember, huge blocks of texts can appear intimidating and off-putting to potential readers. Instead, break them up with headings, bullet points, and images. People approach online content differently than a book or magazine and expect to be able to absorb content quickly.
- Change Up the Format: Don’t just stick with a three-paragraph format for every post. Otherwise, your content may appear stale to readers. You can try lists (“Top 5…” or “7 Tips for Avoiding…”), quizzes, or Q & A and frequently asked question formats. This also helps you avoid falling into a rut with your writing.
- Post Pictures: Images are key for a professional and reader friendly appearance. Also, when sharing on social media people are more likely to click on something that has a picture or video accompanying it.
- Share, Share, Share: Let the world see what you’re writing! Putting it on your blog is not enough. Share your work on Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, Pinterest, or any other social media page you may operate.
- What Questions Do Your Patients Ask? What do your patients want to know? What do they ask you about at the office? These are what you should write about. Answer the questions they want to ask!
- Integrate Long Tail Keywords: Instead of just using service terms (ex. Teeth Whitening or Porcelain Veneers), long tail keywords are phrases containing a keyword that people are most likely to search for (ex. “Why do I Get Toothaches?”).
- Don’t Forget Links: You should always contain three to five links back to your website and other blog posts.
- Don’t Reuse Content: Google knows when you’re reusing old content and this can hurt your SEO rankings.
- Check for Error: Make sure your post is free of common spelling or grammatical errors. Otherwise, your readers may not see you as a professional source.
