When is it time to redesign your website?

Just like with fashion trends, design trends come and go. Your website is the online extension of your physical dental practice. It should be reflective of not only your office’s look and feel but also of your services, technology, and practice philosophy. Deciding on a website design you love can be a challenge. But, how about when it’s time to redesign your website? When’s the right time? How much should you change?

When your site is outdated…

It’s time for a redesign. What constitutes an outdated website design? Anything that is not up to today’s user experience (UX) and search engine optimazation (SEO) standards.

This includes vertical navigation, one-dimensional elements, Flash, autoplay videos, automated popups, nonresponsive/non mobile-friendly designs, old-fashioned fonts, and the like.

Today’s website designs are all about huge background images, responsive design, longer scrolling sites, simplicity, top horizontal navigation, and so much more.

To put it simply: if your website is more than 3 years old, it probably contains at least 1 of these outdated design elements. And, if that’s the case, your website probably isn’t being as effective as possible when it comes to attracting new patients for your practice.

When your office gets an update…

It’s time for a redesign. Like we said before, your website should compliment and reflect the appearance of your physical office. So when your office gets an overhaul, so should your website. Dr. Cabal — one of our clients based in Fort Worth, Texas — followed this advice, and you can read about his experience on our blog. So did Dr. Greenfield in Lake Orion, Michigan.

Dr. Greenfield is one of MDPM Consulting’s first clients and, over the years, we’ve watched him grow his practice. Recently, he designed an entire office park and not only expanded his office and team but also handpicked the other tenants of the park based on how they would work with his practice as referral partners. To go along with the expansion, Dr. Greenfield decided it was time to update his 5-year-old website. This redesign follows up a responsive rebuild and will be complete in the next month. We can’t wait to show off the new site in an upcoming Client Feature Friday!

When you’re bored with your site…

It’s time for a redesign. Sometimes a website doesn’t fall into the outdated category. It’s a few years old, hasn’t been updated recently, and just isn’t doing it for you anymore. A few months ago, Dr. Allen — one of our longstanding clients based in Pella, Iowa — mentioned offhand during his monthly SEO call that he was toying with the idea of updating his website design. His exact words: “If I’m bored with it, other people must be bored with it, too.” And, he’s right.

Although not much has changed in Dr. Allen’s office over the past few years — him and his team serve their patients with high-quality dental care with a smile day in and day out — he knew his website wasn’t putting his practice’s best foot forward online and that it was time for a change. We can’t wait to showcase Dr. Allen’s brand new, beautiful website soon!
