According to Google experts, all business websites need a blog in today’s competitive SEO environment. Because of the changing nature of Google’s algorithm and search engine optimization tactics, we now see evidence that placing a blog on the actual website is beneficial for overall SEO.
- Google Page Rank: Any time you create a new website, the Page Rank authority is N/A until the website gains credit by acquiring incoming links. You may have heard the term back links. This refers to links from other websites to yours. When back links originate from websites with a higher page rank (3 or above), your site gains more authority, and your Page Rank improves. Creating a new blogsite on a separate URL, then linking keyword phrases embedded in blogs from that site to yours does little good. The blogsite has no Page Rank authority. Furthermore, a bunch of links coming from one website does little, now, to enhance overall SEO credit. This has not always been the case.
- Fresh Content Credit: By posting blogs to your website, and because blogs are indexed as news by Google, you’ll gain SEO credit for having fresh, updated content on your site.
- More Pages to Index: Each blog post you publish becomes a page on your website, even if it is only accessible through the blog’s landing page. The more pages that your site has for Google to index, the more opportunities your website will have to show up in search results.
- Long-Tail Keywords: Long-tail keywords are phrases made up of more than one to three words. For instance, cosmetic dentist Dallas would be a regular keyword. “Find a cosmetic dentist in Dallas who offers Invisalign” would be a long-tail keyword phrase. Because of the more mobile nature of search these days, long-tail keywords are more important than ever. People often speak their search requests into a smart phone, and humans tend to speak differently than we write. For this reason, your site may see some traffic from unusual keyword requests. By publishing blogs, you provide more long-tail keywords for Google to index, which means more portals from search results to your website.
- Sharability: The Hummingbird update late last year tells us that social media is not going away, and, in fact, it is and will continue to be an important factor in SEO. Blogs bring a website and social media together. Not only can blogs be published to Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, and other social platforms, but the images on a blog can be published and back linked from Pinterest and Instagram. Because of the importance of sharing blog posts, now more than ever, blogs should have catchy titles that people find interesting enough to share.
