B2B (Business To Business): Marketing a product or service to a business.
B2C (Business To Consumer): Marketing a product or service to an individual.
Blog: Short for web log. An online journal with entries (posts) organized by category and/or date. Blogs are considered news by Google, so they tend to rank very high on search engines.
Branding: The image a company projects. Can include a logo, tagline, customer commitment, mission, vision, etc.
CPC (Cost Per Click): Describes the type of campaign that charges an advertiser each time an ad is clicked. CPC describes Google Adwords. Also called PPC, or Pay Per Click.
CTR (Click Through Rate): The number of times a link is clicked on, divided by the number of times it appears.
Domain Name: The words that stand for an IP address.
Duplicate Content: Text found elsewhere on the Internet.
External Links: Links on a website that lead to other websites.
Footer: The information on the bottom of a website. Usually appears on every page.
Hosting: The service of keeping a website live on the Internet.
Internal Links: Links on a website that lead to pages on that website.
IP (Internet Protocol) Address: The numbers that represent a website’s location on the Internet.
Keyword: The terms typed into a search engine in order to find information by topic, category, location, etc. Also called search terms.
Open in New Window/Open in Same Window: Describes how a link’s destination will appear.
ROI (Return On Investment): The amount of profit associated with an investment.
SEO (Search Engine Optimization): The strategy that involves keywords, content, links, and other tactics that make a website or blog site appeal to search engines, like Google.
Search Engines Robots, Bots, Crawlers, or Spiders: The tools that scan (crawl) websites and determine ranking on SERPs.
SERP (Search Engine Results Page): The listing that populates as a result of a keyword search.
Sidebar: The side column of a website, often designated by right or left.
URL (Uniform Resource Locator): The address of information on the Internet.
WWW (World Wide Web): The Internet.
